The Lee County Department of Human Services
welcomes you to our website...
Our Vision: Empowered individuals and neighborhoods
Our Mission: To promote and provide for Lee County’s diverse human service needs through progressive leadership and community partnerships.
The Department of Human Services serves as a collaborative hub for resources (Federal, State, Local, Private, and Non-Profit) designated to aid economically disadvantaged individuals and families in our community.
There are several program areas within Human Services, each tailored to address specific needs:
Family Self-Sufficiency - Coordinates programs designed to assist individuals and families in need. Eligibility Specialists screen for eligibility and provide information and referral to other agencies or local resources. People who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless should seek assistance immediately. **Important notice: Intake for emergency assistance is closed on Wednesdays. Intake is conducted Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, except for legal holidays. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. and a limited number of people can be seen each day. Telephone screenings are available by calling (239) 533-7996. Be sure to leave a detailed message including your name, daytime telephone number, and a brief description of the service needed. Staff attempt to return calls within 48 hours.**
Housing Services - Offers a variety of affordable housing services designed to meet the needs of eligible, low-income households. Services may include housing rehabilitation, emergency home improvement repairs, rehabilitation of renter-occupied housing, and home buyer down payment assistance. On-going or routine maintenance services are not provided.
Neighborhood Building - The Neighborhood Building Program assists neighborhoods in increasing safety and achieving a sense of community by working with residents and community leaders to identify strengths and unmet needs, and to seek partners and resources to address those needs. Special emphasis has been given to address at risk youth and neighborhoods that are at risk due to poverty, crime, and substandard living conditions.
Contracts- Purchases services from local not-for-profit agencies to address human service needs of Lee County residents. Staff ensure compliance with funding requirements through oversight, monitoring, and technical assistance.
